Since the first versions, the Plant Base program has offered a function menu of large buttons at the left side of the window. These give quick access to some of the most common functions.\u00a0 They repeat some of the functions from the traditional top menu-bar,\u00a0 so some users don’t use them at all (and don’t display the side panel) while others find them quick and convenient.<\/p>\n
However,\u00a0 feedback indicates that people work in different ways and some users would like to arrange the menu buttons in a different order.\u00a0 At a future version there will be a simple, mouse-controlled customisation.\u00a0 However, part of the configuration basis for it has already been done and\u00a0 included from version 2.1.3.\u00a0 So with some manual configuration, it is now possible to change the order.<\/p>\n
Here’s how:–<\/p>\n
With Windows Notepad, open the file PlantBase.prefs<\/strong>\u00a0 – this is normally found under your Windows Profile, but if you are not sure then the location is displayed at the bottom or the Plant Base Configuration Options Window.<\/p>\n At the end of the file add a new line:<\/p>\n Below that we add the lines giving the button positions.\u00a0 There’s no need to add them all, only the ones you wish to change.\u00a0 But a minimum of 2 entries are needed, in order to swap 2 button positions. There is no automatic positioning – you must specify all changes.<\/p>\n For\u00a0 example, to change around the Add and Delete buttons, just add these lines:<\/p>\n Where the number gives the button order from the top.<\/p>\n Now save the PlantBase.prefs file and re-start the Plant Base program.<\/p>\n The sequence of the lines is not important, they just need to be in a group under the [MenuButtons] heading.\u00a0 If you make any error, such as giving two buttons the same number – don’t worry, all lines are ignored and the default order is used.
